I've been a long AOL critic, sighting its deficiencies and knowing a "direct" Internet connection was "better". Lately I've been reevaluating my opinions, based upon analysis of the "average surfer" and, of course, AOL's increasing subscriber base.

Included is an e-mail from one of my valued friends. He's a great guy (even though he's an attorney ;-) -- intelligent and perceptive.

I believe he is representative of many others and based upon his experience will strongly consider investing in AOL.

After numerous tries, I could not access the internet site to register for Ameritech, even after I downloaded the software.  So I called Ameritech and sat on hold for @15 minutes before hanging up.  Called back again yesterday, sat on hold for @8 minutes, then tried explaining my problem to a young female Detroit resident who I doubt even owns a computer.  She said she'd send the CD-ROM but it will take two weeks.  Even then, I wouldn't be able to connect to the site.

So I said screw these people and just popped in an AOL disc that was lying around.   I was up and running in about 3 minutes.

See you soon.

And I thought AOL was stupid for mailing everyone a free silver drink coaster...
