Dear James: Well, our 1989 looks almost brand new. So, I had a factory rebuilt engine installed couple of months ago at 161,000 miles. About the same time I replaced nearly everything under the hood. Alternator, water pump, exhaust manifold, plus most of the electrical such as Magnetic pick up, and all related. Runs better than new now cause when they rebuilt the engine they increase bore size somewhat and grind down the head somewhat. Even had a new crankshaft as they screwed up the old one regrinding it . I was told by the Jeep dealeship that my transmission (an automatic) was the finest Jeep EVER built and they dont even carry parts for it as have never had a failure. So why did I put more money into it than its worth?? Well, my son is graduating from College this year and wants it so I thought I would try and make it as good as possible and give it to him as a graduation present. JDN
