Zoltan-

Thanks for posting the open letter. I hope those who have belittled the investigation of Bill Clinton and besmirched the investigator read it carefully. The letter makes me realize that this world is not entirely devoid of intelligence, a truism I sometimes lose sight of when I visit this thread.

Did you know there are about 115 people in this country in prison for perjuring themselves before federal grand juries? Some of those infractions concerned sexual matters between bosses and subordinates. I have found it both amazing and disgusting to see people on this thread saying the highest official in the land should be exempt from such considerations, and should even be granted carte blanche to obstruct justice. Even the president's defenders in front of Congress are calling his actions reprehensible and, in a sop to social conservatives, "sinful", but there are still those on this thread who think credible charges of perjury and obstruction of justice against a sitting should not even be investigated (I use the word "think" loosely). As one poster put it a few months ago, they want an emperor, not a president!

One of the comments on this thread that stuck in my mind was- I'll not repeat the person's name- asked rhetorically "what man hasn't lied about his romantic life" (not an exact quote), to which I answer: "many". But it illustrates the world in which people like that poster live- a life of integrity is simply unimaginable, so they do not value it and would not hold even the President of the United States to honesty in sworn testimony. I suspect most of these people would take a very different approach if they did not "like" the president in question.

Clinton's zipper problem

Organizers of Madame Tussaud's traveling wax exhibition have been forced to sew the zipper shut on the trousers of the Clinton figure because visitors have been undoing it.

“He's a really popular figure and because the figures are very accessible, people have been taking a few liberties with his clothing,” said Vicky Brown, general manager of the exhibition.

Before Brown hit on the sewing-up strategy, security guards checked on the state of Clinton's trousers every couple of hours to “avoid embarrassment,” she said.
The exhibition, featuring 110 wax figures, is on display in Sydney until July.

For each of the scholars on your list, I could haul out 10 from the other side. C'mon Zoltan, you can do better than that. I especially like the fact that your list includes such paragons of virtue as Ed Meese (recipient of the $15,000 'loan' from someone under DOJ investigation that he somehow forgot to report) and Ted Olson (wasn't it Olson who thumbed his nose at Congress and the Independent counsel investigating his false testimony?). And then there are all the lawyers who engineered the whopper that Ronald Reagan "could not recall" that arms were being traded for hostages: Cooper, Carvin, Brad Reynolds. Well, at least one thing can be said for them, they know lying when they see it.
