....Maxtor Corp. is expected to increase shipments of hard disk drives by 100 percent in 1998 after boosting its research, development and engineering units, Investor's Business Daily reported. Maxtor has spent $100 million upgrading its factory in Singapore, allowing the plant to increase and decrease production more easily in response to demand. The ability to match changes in demand is important because Maxtor supplies drives to companies that build machines largely on a custom-order basis, such as Dell Computer Corp., the paper said.Maxtor said in September it planned to hire 300 new factory workers in Singapore, a 7 percent addition to its workforce of 4,200 there, to help meet ''robust'' demand for its hard disk drives.

In Nov 4, 1998 article from ReadRite that they are supplying heads for MR & GMR to Maxtor. RDRT is a major customer of Veeco.
