Lee,

VIX represents the market (i.e. the S&P500) as a whole. This effect is more pronounced in small cap stock with low average volume and temporary hype. Take the completely erratic behavior of some internet stocks in the recent past, for example. I find it difficult to distinguish between the cause and the effect in these cases, however.

On your end note, I agree that we learn a great deal from Chuzz, Geoff and Nihil; however, we can't miss a chance to possibly learn more from those who have practical experience. (The open mind hypothesis!) <vbg>

I completely agree. That's what open discussion and debates are all about. However, I do believe that practical experiences that may not be substantiated logically often turn out to be flat-earth philosophies and therefore always look for reason as well. But while accepting nothing w/o scrutiny personally I welcome posts representing all philosophies.
