Sedona is a nice place run to when the end of the world comes - if one can run that fast. One would not care about lugging a PC along.

The point I was making is that the world has a hard time waking up to real issues such as the Y2K problem. The millions with Works on their PC's are the ultimate example (Ted not included). As Ted points out, they are a very important group because there are millions of them out there.

I ran across a URL for the latest update on Y2K readiness, but can not find it now. Maybe it was in IBD or something. The point made was very few leading companies and industry groups are even 80% ready. Our Government is a laggard. Foreign countries are in worse shape. If the leaders are not blazing a path in main frames, one could guess the condition the general PC market is in. PC's are just starting to get attention. Main frame attention has been around for years.

Tom C: Re: "total extinction of the entire human race"

I find it unlikely that humans will become extinct. More likely, they will lose their place at the top of the heap here on Earth.

Perhaps there will be a resurgence of other mammals as the humans are weakened by their Y2K experience. Maybe we'll become subservient to other beings. So, instead of being the humans' planet, Earth will become, say, the planet of the apes.

There's a great story hidden in there, somewhere.
