National Semiconductor (NSM) 16 5/16 -5/16: semiconductor manufacturer posts a fiscal Q2 loss of $0.29 a share, excluding charges, twenty cents better than the First Call estimate, vs year-ago profit of $0.17 a share; revenues fell 29% to $510.1 mln

Tom, ALSC, SIII and UMC are partners in USC, if I remember right. I
know alot of people think UMC IS USC, but they're separate
companies. Also, ALSC doesn't have stock in USC since the IPO hasn't
been offered yet, but ALSC DID sell a 3% share of their
interest in the partnership to cover operating expenses in '98. I
think they'll sell more %s as needed until the ink turns black again.
Once the IPO for USC goes, they'll be flush with cash, if the timing
is good.(I think the investment tripled before the Asian crisis hit)
