Kevin,
"One thing nobody has really realized is that a 500 MHz Katmai is going to outperform a 500 MHz Xeon clock for clock. "

Don't worry, Intel will come up with a benchmark showing the more expensive Xeon is a must for the server sucker. <G>

Kevin - Re: "Hope Intel has plans to quickly port the Katmai core into the Xeon infrastructure."

You spend too much time in AMDLAND.

Do you think Intel was born yesterday?

Tanner.

It's called TANNER !

Tanner will have the Katmai in a Slot 2 cartridge with full speed L2 cache.

Tanner.

Tanner will be an UPGRADE to Xeon.

Coming real soon.

And then Coppermine and Cascades later in 1999.

These will be 0.18 micron versions of Katmai and Tanner.

Tanner.

Coppermine and Cascades.

Look for large on-chip L2 cache in the Cascades - full speed - maybe 1 or 2 MegaBytes.

Coming next year.

Paul
