In general any problem for Ericsson in mobile phones is bad for VLSI. If phone margins are down, they will pressure VLSI. However, they still need their ICs, and most phones have one or more VLSI chips, which are governed by long term contracts.

Also they blame downturn on Asia, rather than admitting Nokia is gaining huge digital handset market share at ERICYs expense.
