IMHO Ericy will never buy Qcom. First, the bad blood issue both within the companies and among the shareholders. It would almost certainly be a hostile takeover. Would you long-term Qcom holders really want to sell to Ericy? Nah. Second, assuming an Ericy offer includes an all-stock buyout or at least partially stock, would Qcom shareholders (who presumably had the insight to be forward thinking on technology) really want to have their fate be dictated by a company that has taken a short to mid term protective strategy to protect its existing and outmoded technology that has actually jeopardized Ericy. I bought and have held through all the ups and downs because I believe that Qcom has seen the future and I want to be financially rewarded big time. I don't want my financial future tied to a company like Ericy that has had a history of refusing to look towards the future, aggressively adopt new technology. Third, Ericy's competitors will never allow it to acquire Qcom. If Ericy made unfriendly offer there would be bidding war and a white knight--I would bet on an American company like Lucent. Besides, at this point with Ericy's problems and stock-price decline, I would think it would be at a disadvantage vis a vis other players.
