Let me give you some thoughts. My background is that I am a Chemical Engineer. My perspective is that the gas reservoir has a pressure of around 10,000 psig At the outlet of the well bore the pressure by definition is 0. As the flow proceeds up the pipe the pressure has to fall. If water is somehow getting in it has to be at a higher pressure than the gas in the pipe - say 8,000 PSI at 12,000 ft. Now, water enters and back pressures the downside of the well bore and pressure builds and establishes a balance. From the mix point we have flow that balances all the pressures. Therefore, there should be a uniform mix of oil, gas and water coming out of the well. If it is primarily water it has to be coming from the bottom.

Also, how does the casing get damaged at 12,000 ft. to allow water to enter?
