ps. the D: drive will be your next real drive letter, not an extended partition drive letter. 4-2-4-2 would be my suggestion...

Partitions.

There are probably as many different answers as there are ways
to crash Windows.

Personally I prefer large partitions, and all my drives
have only one except the "C" drive (master HD on primary
controller), which has a small FAT partition for booting
DOS an a large NTFS partition. This causes me its share
of grief, as will your scheme because the partitions won't get
letters the way you have written them.

What you wrote
-------------
HD 1
C
D
E
F
G

HD 2
H

What you'll get
---------------
HD 1
C
E
F
G
H

HD 2
D

Meaning drives E ... will change letters if you add or
remove a HD, and you have to be prepared to deal with that.

Another point. You can only put four primary partitions
on one HD, so you will have to have an extended partition.
You can't boot from an extended partition unless you use
a boot manager. Things to think about.

I don't know if Fat32 will go above 8meg. Anyone? If not,
you will, of course, need at least two.

There's no particular reason to put the swap file in its
own partition (though it is a good idea to size it manually
so you can keep it unfragmented). A reason not to is
to be able to grow it without changing the partition.

These are random thoughts. If I had a good clear answer,
I could have given it instead of rambling <g>.
