Mr. John Auston reports
Two kimberlites in the current early-winter drilling program in the
Buffalo Hills area of north-central Alberta have been discovered.
The first of these, kimberlite LL-8, is on the Loon Lake property and
approximately 21 kilometres southeast of kimberlite K-11. The new
kimberlite was discovered by a vertical core drill hole under 75 metres
of overburden.
The second discovery, BM-2, is on the Birch Mountain property and
approximately 16 kilometres southeast of K-11. It was found by a
vertical core drill hole under 63 metres of overburden.
Discovery of LL-8 and BM-2 brings to 25 the number of kimberlites
found since inception of the program in early 1997. Sixteen of the first
23 of these kimberlites have been found to contain diamonds. Samples
from the recent holes will be analyzed for microdiamonds at Ashton's
laboratory in North Vancouver.
Processing of a mini-bulk sample of approximately 17 tonnes from
kimberlite K-11 is continuing at the company's laboratory.

The joint venturers on the Buffalo Hills project, including the Loon Lake
and Birch Mountain properties, are Ashton Mining of Canada (42.5 per
cent), Alberta Energy Company (42.5 per cent) and Pure Gold Minerals
(15 per cent). Ashton is operator of the programs.
