Top Of The News
• Ericsson Inc. says it could cut some 10,000 additional employees from its worldwide work force because of slowing business
conditions.

The company's CEO, Sven-Christer Nilsson, said continuing repercussions from the Asian economic crisis were affecting
global demand for telecom products, with direct results for Ericsson's sales and profit.

The trend will prompt "substantial reductions" in Ericsson job rolls, which Nilsson told a Stockholm conference might be
roughly 10 percent of its 100,000 employees.

Nilsson said the company's fourth-quarter results would be below analyst expectations, news that triggered a nearly 20 percent
drop in Ericsson's stock in European and early U.S. trading today.

The actual job cuts will be detailed Jan. 28, when Ericsson releases its annual report. The company would not disclose the
business units likely to be affected.

Nilsson noted that despite weakening operating income in the mobile phones business, due to high demand for low-margin
entry-level handsets, Ericsson continued to expect strong growth and demand in wireless.

He also said that slowing demand due to global financial conditions had affected the company's Public Networks business in
particular.
