Interesting article: "V.90 Hits the Road, Sort Of"

"Two more tips: I said I'd found one gem of a V.90 modem--the 3Com Megahertz
3CXEM556B. You can get it with or without a 10-Mbps Ethernet connection. At
about $200 in the modem-only flavor and $300 in the combo edition, it's not
cheap, but it's consistently the fastest V.90 modem and the fastest V.34 PC
Card device I've ever used.

Second, write down this phone number: 847-262-6000. That's 3Com's bulletin
board, with the best free line-quality test I've found. Use Win 95's or Win 98's
HyperTerminal program to dial into the BBS, then enter line as your first name
and test as your last name. About 90 percent of the time, the BBS will
accurately identify the line you've dialed in on as reliably "56K-able" or not.

Steve,

Exactly. It was going up in the morning with
the market. And also, it bounced off of
dips well, but it wasn't confident enough to
buck the market. It will though soon enough.

Steve (or any network experts),

We need another one of your network lectures (rantings/ravings).

I find the Press Release timing of these two products interesting.
Do you see any connection?

Also, the scaled down Corebuilder 9000 seems to be another
"killer" product coming up for '99. Note how they say that,
"3Com will soon announce a scaled-down version...". Almost
meant to be a reply to the CSCO product. What do
you think?

Also, separately, let us know what you think about the scaled
down Corebuilder 9000. What's the potential uses? And the
impact it will have on general networking uses? (I almost
feel that in a few years, we'll be able to build our own
ISPs at home:) )

"3Com will soon announce a scaled-down version of the CoreBuilder 9000, the com-pany's top-of-the-line Gigabit Ethernet and ATM switch. "
