<<If sales increase 40% in Q4, approximately 3.3 Zip drives will be sold in Q4, an increase of about 1.1 million Zip drives per month.>>

Don't you mean..."if sales increase 40% in quarter 4....an increase of 1.1 million drives FOR THE QUARTER" and not "1.1 million Zip drives per month"?

<<Is it not premature to make any conclusion about the growth of Zip drive sales?>>

No...its not "premature." It is well known that Zip drive "SALES" (meaning the dollars/revenue generated from this product line) have weakened even while Zip drive "SHIPMENTS" (meaning the actual units of this product shipped) have increased. They are not the same. We all know, or should know, that IOM is making and shipping even increasing NUMBERS of Zip drives. What Wall Street does not yet know, or believe, is whether, given its recent failure to do so, IOM can be profitable in this business. The talking heads on CNBC, like that guy from David Alger this PM, don't think so. He said, in effect, IOM has a product with "poor shelf life" or some such bull. These kind of guys will only be convinced by increasing REVENUE/PROFITS generated from Zip drive sales...NOT increasing numbers of Zip drives sold. I'm hoping we surprise 'em all this quarter. GIL

well. K.E announced in Jan(or few months early) conference call that they were shipping around 1Mil/month and compared to that there is no acceleration. But in reality Q4 97 had close to 2.7Mil drives for the Qtr. At the rate now (which is 1M/month), we will have around 3 to say 3.1M for the Qtr which is not much of increase (less than 15%). So, looks like Zip drive sales go with the PC sales growth and WallSt won't be happy with that since the Zip penetration in PCs will be the same %. I want to see much higher numbers esp considering that both the drive and disk prices are lot cheaper Vs last year. If you want the meaning of accelerating growth, Check out CSCO's revenue for last 32 Qtrs or so. Any one Qtr revenue is always 8-10% higher than the Qtr before 3 months - Summer or winter does not matter. Is it any wonder that CSCO keeps going up while IOM is cursed like Allen's wife says??

I still have some hope left though but the proof is in the pudding. If Jan numbers don't give a +ve surprise for us, I think i will also get out of this cursed stock. There is limit to our patience too :-<

Today is December 10. Iomega usually delays the announcement of million milestones for a week or two.

Iomega is on record stating that they would no longer announce each million zip drives sold. They said this months ago. So if they "feel" like announcing 20 million they will, but one shouldn't draw any conclusions if they don't.
