Either that, or as I mentioned before he belongs to some sort of radical fanatic reglious cult that believes in having spiritual pain in order to go to heaven. And it seems with the type of investments Dale has been doing he is not only hurting his pocket, but also is going through the spiritual pain that goes along with huge losses.
