If Intel increases wafer starts - and their unit shipments increase - the FGI could increase - since it would then reflect a higher level of business conditions.

If Intel shipped 100 CPUs per month, they would/should have very low inventories.

If they shipped 100 billion CPUs per month, I suspect they would have to have higher inventories AT ALL LEVELS - just to support the higher level of business.

With more Intel customers switching to BTO/JIT production systems, somebody will have to be building inventory - and that will be Intel - especially as Compaq ramps their BTO program.
