Don't forget that it was the "liberal" New York Times that broke the Whitewater story in the first place, way back in 1992 when Clinton was still a candidate. The reporter conducted a Woodward-and-Bernstein style investigation into the matter. Don't forget that it was Newsweek which originally got a hold of the Lewinsky story, holding it at the behest of the Independent Counsel. I think you're boxing in the dark just a little.

You're right that the vast majority of underinformed don't currently pay attention to CNBC and so on, but that's changing as cable television and cable tv news networks build audience share. And that's precisely the point: they've used events like Lewinsky and O.J. to lure people to their channels.

Perhaps we should move this conversation to jimpits Media Spin thread, eh?
