Totally agree. I think that the best thing
to do for small investors are to cash out,
or buy overbeaten but good fundamental stocks
to play rebound. If you have to play stocks,
then it is time to short it at least this
week. Year end selling is close.

Good luck

Michael

MCI WorldCom to lay off 2,000 workers
NEW YORK, Dec 10 (Reuters) - MCI WorldCom Inc., the No. 2 U.S. long distance phone company, on Friday will lay off 2,000 workers or almost 3 percent of its workforce in dozens of locations across the country, sources familiar with the company said on Thursday.

The job cuts come as part of the newly merged company's plan to cut $2.5 billion in expenses in 1999.

MCI WorldCom declined to comment. The company said earlier on Thursday it was conducting a full review of its newly combined operations to identify areas to reduce expenses. Any comments on a reduction of the 77,000-person workforce would be premature, a company spokeswoman said.

The cuts will affect dozens of locations nationally, with Cary, North Carolina, Richardson, Texas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, seeing the biggest losses at almost 300 workers each, sources said. No facilities will be closed.

The layoffs primarily affect engineers and other workers in network operations and information technology, sources said.

MCI WorldCom was created in September through Jackson, Mississippi-based WorldCom Inc.'s $40 billion acquisition of MCI Communications Corp.

>>I would think Mr. Clinton will resign ,, then further fall from grace...

Clinton will never resign...he and his wife will pathetically cling onto power until they are pulled kicking and screaming from the White House. Two of the most absolutely pathetic people I have ever seen in my life.....he does not care if he falls from Grace..it is all just a vast right wing conspiracy that forced him to sexuually harass employees and lie about it under oath...he has no conscience and will never admit to doing anything wrong...it is after all just a private matter....

TM, good post.

The asian crisis we have read about for so long is finally affecting companies in the US. Manufacturing lay offs in different sectors are a signal to not be ignored, although from what I learned yesterday, the labor market remains tight and I believe we are looking at a blip and not a longer term increase in unemployment. Already, sister companies are being affected by these lay offs, something to keep a close watch on.

Europe is selling off today. Impeachment is hanging over the markets. Will traders and investors be holding over the weekend? Tough to call what will happen today. FORD's positive news is a good sign.

"Some of you are acting like men in skirts"
Hey Joe, you weren't referring to my Scottish ancestors...were you????
They were pretty ruthless, I'm told, for fellers in drag!
Seriously, good post.
Good fortune...
