It goes "clunk" when you put it in a pop machine and the sign lights up "Counterfeit Kruggerand, sorry we are out of Coca Cola"

You might also weigh it in water and then weigh it in air with a Jolly balance beam. The Jolly balance beam has two scale pans suspended one from the other and the bottom one is always in water. You move the coin from the air bound scale to the water bound one and take the difference in weight. Divide the actual weight by the difference (in grams) and that is the SG. The SG for all coins is published. If you cannot get its SG then calculate it from its published weight. The weight in gold is known and the dross in the Kruggerand is copper so the SG can be calculated as weight in grams-32.1029 = copper weight (grams) for the ideal coin.

Then the formula is SG=(%copper X 8.9 +%gold X 19.5) again for the ideal coin. Then you compare it to your coin's actual SG. I am guessing if the K Coin is 1% copper then the SG should be 19.394. At 5% copper it would be 18.97.

A simpler way is to tie the coin to a string and weight it in water
and weigh it in air on a triple beam balance. The string should be waxed.
