My grandmother's red beans and rice was the Perfect Food. I swear to you that there was nothing else to compare. She ran a restaurant. I begged her to give me the recipe. At that time, she was not only retired, the restaurant had been closed for years. She would not give me the recipe, although I was her favorite grandchild, because she wanted to have it available in case she ever had to open a restaurant again. I assured her that I would never open a restaurant. To no avail. She did promise to leave me the recipe in her will. But she didn't.
