Hey, I only post what is out there. We must keep our priorities straight! Go UC and I do not mean University of Connecticut.

Bearcats get Cajun vote

If the Cincinnati Bearcats got the same opportunity to impress all the wire-service poll voters they had with Southwestern Louisiana coach Jesse Evans Saturday night, perhaps they would not find themselves looking up at No. 3 Duke.

Evans, a member of the panel of coaches that votes on the ESPN - USA Today Top 25, is one of the few who put some stock into UC's earlier victory against Duke and placed the Bearcats ahead on his ballot. He left the Shoemaker Center convinced he underrated them after UC's 91-65 victory against the Ragin' Cajuns.

"I'm going to have to put them a little higher after seeing them first-hand," Evans said. "I haven't had the opportunity to play Maryland or Connecticut, but if they're better than Cincinnati, playing with any more confidence or enthusiasm, I don't want to see them."

He said this after a performance he considered to be uneven and that pleased the No. 4 Bearcats (6-0) less. Imagine if they'd put together two solid halves of basketball.

Baba,

UConn/ UC and college hockey:

UC and UConn are still on track. I saw the Bearcats Sunday against Dayton. Also, my daughters school, Mercyhurst may play UConn in hockey shortly. Gee, this is David vs Goliath. 2500 kids at MC.

Mercyhurst hockey team opens play

in Connecticut Tournament today

The Mercyhurst College hockey team will face off against a longtime rival tonight in the opening round of the University of Connecticut Tournament at Storrs, Conn.

The Lakers (8-4) play former Division II power Alabama-Huntsville (9-2-1) today at 4 p.m. at the University of Connecticut Ice Rink. The second contest pits Iona (7-4) against UConn (7-2-1).

Mercyhurst and Alabama-Huntsville are competing as Division I independents this season, while both UConn and Iona are members of the Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Hockey League, of which the Lakers will be a member beginning next season.

Mercyhurst, which won the UConn tourney last season, hasn't played since winning the Hamilton Tournmanet Dec. 11-12. The Lakers have won six of their last seven, the only loss a 1-0 overtime setback at Elmira Nov. 29.
