It's another reason why I'm not taking any company's market share statements on face value. There is no *way* Alcatel has a 10% global marketshare. They wouldn't be tanking like they are if they really were this hot - I think their global share was around 3% in 1997 (WSJ and other sources), so they would have had to triple their market share in a year - while overall market is growing at around 40%. These numbers would mean they are the hottest-growing mobile phone company in the world... how come this is not reflected in their quarterly results?
