I think the news is mostly good.

When I bought into IDX in 1997, my main concern was "market risk," i.e., whether a major bio-ID market would develop or not. Now, it seems pretty clear that it will -- at least as far as the suppliers are concerned.

As to IDX going up against the big companies in bio-ID, it isn't doing it alone. It has very significant large allies: Oracle, Computer Associates, Unisys, Compaq, Verifone, among others. And IDX itself is a significant player in technical expertise.

Brad has been singing this song for some time, but what we now need to keep an eye out for is one of these large competitors deciding to buy out Identix and short-circuit our gains. I don't think it will happen in a matter of months, though, and I don't think it will happen until the bio-ID market has proven out and given the potential acquirer a more certain view of Identix' worth. Under that scenario, the stock should be way, way above where it is today before an offer occurs.
