CTC,

I feel that HP's obvious strength is in the high-end of the business, instruments and servers. Their apparent desire to dominate the low (note, not the mid, but the low) end as well at a loss is what confuses me. While they are talking about getting out of the low end, they are talking internet appliances again. Meanwhile Sun is producing splendid high-end machines (the Starfire servers are really nice) while completely ignoring the low end and alligning themselves with what I feel is the real meat in the enterprise internet business, softwae and servers that run the software - not low margin internet appliances that hook up to the servers. My views may be colored by the collective judgement of my peers in the business segment that I work in, however.

Anyway, I somehow find all this a symptom of lack of focus. I may very well be wrong.
