VCD chip shipments to China were 18M units in 1997. C-Cube shipped 11M of these.

By the end of September, 1998, C-Cube had shipped around 1M CVD chips. C-Cube had to add the EnReach software, after the Chao Ji VCD standard was set. Due to shut-downs of VCD lines to convert to CVD during the last Q, Chinese New Year being 19 days later, taking reserves to pay for the software, and the Chinese consumer slowing down; sales of VCD/CVD were slower in Q3. About 25% of C-Cube's OEMs VCD lines were converted to CVD/Chao Ji VCD production.

In Q4, C-Cube will ship over 4M units of VCD/CVD chips. 1M will be CVD.

How about USA? it is best at close to 800KU in 1998,perhaps
1 to 2 MU in 1999. It probably will take off in 2000.

Therefore all the news on DVD market is overblown.

You forgot to count PC-DVD units with hardware decoders. I don't know the numbers, but I expect that they are higher than for consumer players. No one ever said that DVD is a big market for CUBE right now. (I think about 5% last Q) However, the growth rate in this market is impressive.
