NTL settops.................................... inside-cable.co.uk NTL DIGITAL SETTOPS TO USE C-CUBE TECHNOLOGY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NTL is to be the first user of C-Cube's new AViA@tv product family in its Pace digital settop boxes. AViA@tv is an integrated processor and graphics solution which offers web access over the TV, plus two-way cable networking for e-mail, on-line home banking, and around the clock access to a wide range fo services. C-Cube claims its flicker free technology is a world leader improving the picture quality of HTML content on the television, preventing distracting "flickers" when Web content is browsed. Televisions use an interlaced display which updates slower than PC monitors, while PC monitors have a progressive scan display and a higher refersh rate. NTL will be offering high-fidelity audio/video services as well as interactive data services, including web browsing, e-mail, chat, pay-per-view, games and home shopping. The Pace settop box for NTL will offer the world's first DVB-RC implementation, competing with the MCNS standard which CWC has chosen. Pace is the only manufacturer which currently holds contracts for settop boxes for all three digital broadcast systems - cable, satellite, and terrestrial.
