Hyperion Up 10%; Salomon Smith Barney Raises Price Target

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Hyperion Telecommunications Inc.'s (HYPT) shares climbed 14%
Friday after Salomon Smith Barney analyst, Jack B. Grubman, raised his price target.

Citing recent asset expansion, the analyst raised his 12-month price target, which is based on a
10-year discounted cash flow-model, to $27 from $20.

In a research note, Grubman said the company has expanded its market opportunities with its dark
fiber-optic purchases from Qwest Communications International Inc. (QWST), Williams Cos.'
(WMB) Williams Communications unit and other fiber-optic network companies.

The deals, Grubman said "catapult Hyperion into a facilities-based integrated superregional local and
long distance provider, expanding its market presence."

The analyst said near-term earnings per share dilution stemming from the company's moves to expand
and to enter the data market "is a small price to pay for the reward of the huge increase in the
addressable market."

The Coudersport, Pa., company's shares recently changed hands at 12 1/2, up 1 1/2, or 13.6%, on
Nasdaq volume of 199,500 shares compared to average daily volume of 193,838.
