The trading range is getting more impressive by the minute.

Looks as though it'll set an all-time high. Confusing us all the more. :)

Lucent Scores $90 million worth of Optical Networking Contracts In Europe And Asia

Lucent Technologies has won $90 million in contracts with the Netherlands' national communications company, KPN Telecom BV, Spain's Telefonica de Espana, Korea Telecom, and the Posts and Telecommunications Administrations in several Chinese provinces.

Under a $65 million agreement with KPN, Lucent will supply 16-channel (2.5 Gbps each) dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment for a 14-city synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) network connecting Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague, and Utrecht. A separate agreement calls for network integration services and the implementation of a new network operations center co-located with KPN's Hilversum facility.

In China, Lucent will supply a 16-channel DWDM system to the Guangdong Posts and Telecommunications Administration (PTA) in south China for the service provider's provincial backbone network. Lucent also will provide add/drop multiplexers, digital cross connects, and network management to the JiangSu PTA, enabling it to double its existing network capacity.

In Korea, Lucent was named the exclusive provider of DWDM equipment for Korea Telecom's backbone network. The service provider will use Lucent's 16-channel DWDM system to expand capacity along a route between Seoul, Daegu, Daejon, Kwangju, and Pusan.

Spain's Telefonica will use Lucent's WaveStar OLS 80G DWDM system to transport traffic along a link extending approximately 540 kilometers between Madrid and Seville. Telefonica has signed a similar contract with Ericsson.
