Your right, I agree 30 is a high PE for CPQ but here is how it compares to other companies (numbers are approximate)

HWP 17X
IBM 22X
DELL 45X
GTW 20X
AAPL 12X

One thing I am sure we can agree on is that all the companies above have some problems. HWP well, haven't made their numbers since....I can't remember. IBM, no problem here, but CPQ may provide competition for them in the near future. DELL, unreal expectations, slower growth (one of these days the rats are going to run from the ship).
GTW IMO is losing market share to the others, I haven't seen near as many gateway commercials anymore. AAPL, well, disappointing IMAC sales.......the MAC will never be anything more than a niche product.
So 30 may be a high PE for CPQ to sustain over time, but it may be achievable in a bull market, otherwise, probably closer to 20.

I would sure hate to own DELL when the rats begin to run.
