It's not the fear of impeachment; it's the uncertainty associated with it. The market likes stability - it does not like the unknown. Once there is a final determination one way or the other, the market will rally but it will probably have a negative bias in the interim.

I agree with all of your points regarding the economy. There is one other factor contributing to the strong economy and the budget surplus - the Reagan tax cuts and, more recently, the capital gains cuts. Once again it is proven that low tax rates are conducive to economic growth. The government generates more net tax dollars taking a smaller percentage piece of a bigger pie. However, the Democrats will never accept it since it does not further their redistribution of wealth philosophy. But I digress........
