Rem55... the "alliance."

"....The firms hope to meet consumer demand for a product that can deliver high-quality records but ensure copyright protection and allow record companies to retain control of distribution."

"...Record labels and the RIAA say the Rio supports piracy on the Internet. Supporters say it allows artists to control their music and allows smaller bands without a major record label contract to reach a large audience."

"....music executives see a doomsday scenario where Mariah Carey will sell just a single CD to an entire university."
(I couldn't care less if she ends up on a street corner with a monkey and an organ grinder)

Sounds like a spoiled, sniveling, very self-serving-and-self-important "alliance." They'll have to accept the changes coming about; their fading domain and domination. The control they once enjoyed over distribution channels will become quite irrelevant as they will no more have any better means to PUBLISH content. (Trying to punish the Chinese for "piracy" just ain't gonna work out) WAVX and the freedoms of technologies that the computer and the internet represent provide for the displacement of the entertainment industry's narcism. (Face it, they are not all that "entertaining," we are just too easily entertained by "special effects and resigned to the fact that they killed the whole tradition of going out, getting stinking drunk, and listening to LIVE MUSIC in the name of sit-at-home "family entertainment. Talk about fun!) Clamouring to make money off the Net then finding that it is doing in with the means to do it too! Das ist shade. I'll tell you what. Let's all give ourselves a 'round of applause! We can eventually give ourselves yearly awards for best this and that in Net-music and Net-movies and Net-litter-ature...

Sincerely,
Marty

P.S. Thanx for your kindness.
