The aluminum magnet got stuck to the plate in Joe's head, nobody believed this great idea, so like many idea's that Joe has had it vanished in the wind. Guess it couldn't be done.

This is from May, 1991 news article. Does it sound familiar?

What was that? A magnet that can separate a non-ferrous metal?
"Yes, this system, which was developed over a number of years, has
the potential to make a lot of money, but the more important thing is
the impact on the environment," Mr. LaStella said. "If we can
recycle some of the stuff going into our landfills, it benefits all of us."
Mr. LaStella just recently perfected the process. It has been
tested on a preproduction prototype, at the publicly held company's
new facility, 2467 S. 2570 West.

"We've had all kinds of 'experts' come in to look at the system and
they all say the same thing - 'It can't be done.' Well, the proof is right here," he said, noting "we don't even let the 'experts' in the front door anymore."
The technology, being marketed through Charter Resources Inc., a
publicly held company, has "enormous applications" he said.
