RE Europe taking over their own defense.
Around 9 years ago, I worked for a large defense contractor. At that time Europe only bought around 20% of those goods from the US then, and suspect it is less now.
Many of our Military top guys would like this better, as there would be less pressure for the US to use NATO compatible stuff 9mm vs 45acp, 7.62 NATO vs 30-06, many want the next generation LMG to be a 6.2(?)mm caseless, while NATO likes the 5.56. Then there is the whole thing about bolt mounting patterns and metric vs " threads & sizes on theirs vs ours.We might find it cheaper to do it "our" way only. Last I heard(just a year or two ago) much in the military is still inches.
