MAN, HAVE YOU GOT AN EXPENSIVE LIFESTYLE.

I "retired" from my full-time job this past May at 40 and am doing quite nicely on a HECK of a lot less than $7MM. It all depends on how we expand our lifestyles to fit our income. I retired from my job to spend more time with family and put that as my number one priority right now. I could have waited and accumulated the massive nest egg you mentioned, but by then it might be too late, kids are grown, too old to do anything, etc. My advice is to retire as early as you can and enjoy the rest of your life to the fullest, not forgetting to give back something in the process.
