My two cents worth on the impeachment front is that the Republicans absolutely do NOT want Clinton impeached. But they absolutely DO want him to be "spanked" in front of the American public via impeachment proceedings until the time of the next election. If impeachment occurred, then Gore would have a very strong hand as an incumbent running on the Democratic ticket for President. Not a desireable position for the Republicans. From a strategic perspective (please forgive me for presuming that political thought could be predicated on strategy and tactics rather than the best interest of the voting masses), best position is to continue putting the wrong doings in front of the American public on a fairly consistent basis through the time of the Presidential election. That's my prediction.

Regarding oil prices... who knows??? North Slope Alaska Crude is currently selling lower than EVER in the history of production from the slope (and that doesn't include a correction factor for inflation... simply lower than EVER). Now around $8.50 a barrel. If and when it hits $5.00 a barrel, the State gets no royalty revenue at all. For a State that has developed an appetite for a few billion dollars in royalty income each year, the current circumstance is over the edge of the cliff and could get even worse (As the old saying goes... It's not the falling, it's the landing that hurts!). If deflation gets a good enough grip on the rest of the American economy, watch out below. Painful landings ahead. I don't like to think of myself as a doom and gloomer, but I am very concerned about the North American economy if deflationary pressures continue unabated. Much worse for the economy than the high rate of inflation during the Carter administration. Who knows... oil prices may recover quickly enough that my concerns will seem like a distant bump in the rear view mirror. We'll see.
