Set back the clocks?

Interesting article on the traffic signal controllers.

I recently read an article in the last Ontario Professional Engineer's Journal concerning manufacturing systems and Y2K. It suggested that for standalone systems (not part of complex networked systems) setting back the clock should be the first consideration. The article referenced several case studies. One study concerned a public water provider and waste processor with 150 automated facilities each of which contained several automation components including PC's, PLC's, etc. Y2K compliance was ensured by setting back the clocks on the PC's and PLC's.

Another Southern Ontario plant with a an early 1990's control system saved the $200,000 to $400,000 repair cost by setting back the clocks.

The article was written by a Professional Engineer who is a partner in an automation engineering firm.
