LindyBill,
I think a loss at this level may already be factored into the price so a 20 point loss is out of the question.
MSFT's management is now thinking public relations. I heard analysts say that it should have no material impact on earnings.
Notice how the stock reacted to the loss to SUNW. MSFT's PR was great. I think they are already working out a plan to deal with a negative decision.
Personally, I was staying away from the MSFT stock due to the SUNW Java case not due to the DOJ case. I was concerned more about what would happen to Windows 98 or their other software if they lose. Now it appears MSFT does not even need Java and can "pull" it out if they want. They had a back up plan and still do if SUNW cancels their licensing agreement for Java.
This is why I am no longer concerned. The company is always working on the different scenarios that can result from the Judge's decision. I remember after the Java loss, a spokesman for MSFT stated that they are a resourceful company that has planned for any outcome of the case ---- This time is no different.
