Not sure, maybe rudedog can shed some light.
IMO it's another one of those niche things anyway.
If I were looking for someone to take on, it wouldn't be Microsoft. I think AMD has chance to gain some marketshare on INTC, but I would bet on MSFT prevailing in this war.

NCI www.nc.com has defined a "network computer reference profile"
Digital developed the "shark" a strongarm based NC last year and built around 2000 of them.
the project was killed due to pressures from microsoft.

Sun sells the "javastation", their network computer,
here we have had a dozen of them sitting in the boxes for about two years. (no applications)
