>>Only one question--triple DES required ?? <<

Aahh! the thorn bush has appeared. I cannot comment on this one from memory, at least not with any preciseness, except to state that this is the legacist's delight, since they hold precedent near and dear to their hearts.

The security "facilities," as IBM likes to call them, associated with SNA and channel extension techniques, in other words, and probably for some very good reasons [not the least of which center on the fact that there is no need for breaking new ground with the controllers and the auditors], need no proving in at this point. The same cannot be said for IP nets, yet, especially those which will be exposed at some point to extranetted extremes, whether such skepticism is warranted... or not.

>>Perfect for a modern ip network and there are companies that do the channel attached ip thing.<<

No argument. There are now IP solutions which are more than suitable supporting many SNA over IP applications. And they are making dramatic inroads, even in the staunchest of financial institutions, surprisingly, which have historically been ultra-conservative in this respect.

But this particular application was only recently re-engineered, just a matter of a year before high cap IP became obvious and trusted, and you have an abundance of committed dollars that were sunk into stuff that must now age itself out. At least on the capture side of the business. I hold out more hope in the interbank electronic check image presentment and clearing/settlement side for IP, though.

Wait until next year. And so it goes...
