thanks for the ideas. Regarding your question, yes, I simply moved the NIC from one computer to the other, as they aren't networked together yet. Like you say, I have seen that masquerade software--it is becoming quite mainstream--Linksys has a home network promotion now that includes one version of that software, for free. Good idea about peering from the faster machine (still driving me crazy, though).

Cable internet is unreal. Hope you can find something soon in Toronto. Don't forget about ADSL and Wireless. Do some checking around at the ISP's there--you might find something.
