Larry--- there are applications that run HVACs, machinery, & etc that has no need to know what year it is. The day and date are required to control temps and production by the day of the week and time of day... if all it takes is changing the year on the computer (some are 286s and 386s)every 16 years... cheaper than repairing or replacing. When the APPs are changed with new software or middleware and hardware the "fix" will be in place with normal capital spending purchases.
