Dale, no point in further discussion of the impeachment and Clinton's disgusting behavior that led us here. The point is that the impeachment procedings will be very negative for the market and are now likely to drag on for months with a related result that many of our pro-business Republican Congressmen will be thrown out by the voters in 2000 and we may face another 20 years of Democratic Congress. Let's focus on how to profit from the ugly mess. I would guess that this mess will lead to long delays in meaningful social security or tax reforms. The hoped for investment of social security funds in equities is likely dead now. Additional capital gains tax reductions likewise delayed. Big new government projects delayed. Current white elephants live on. Time to start building short positions.

Revised Margin Requirements In order to reduce exposure to our customers and our firm, the Discover Brokerage Credit Committee is evaluating and adjusting the maintenance requirements for certain volatile stocks. The first phase of this development will begin on December 16, 1998. At that time the initial list of stocks shown below will be subject to revised margin requirements. As subsequent adjustments to our margin policies will be announced shortly, please be sure to check this area periodically for updates. Review of margin requirements on volatile stocks is quickly becoming the norm in our industry and we hope to protect Discover Brokerage and its customers with these measures. Margin maintenance requirements are set by the rules and regulations of the New York Stock Exchange and other regulatory agencies. Individual firms may and often do increase the requirements at their own judgement and discretion. Margin maintenance requirements may change without prior notice. Effectively immediately, initial public offerings cannot be margined for 60 days after their initial trade date.
