o/t I agree that NYC might be the most corrupt..that is where the biggest piranas live..but usually the powerful are the most corrupt? I figure they are the most terrified people alive..
There are also so very many gentle people here..who are just hard working people..who are kind and giving..until they get ripped off too much...
As for the bargains, because so very many people are concentrated in such a small area, through volume there can be more bargains..Also since there is such intense competition, there are a lot of come ons to acquire more customers or new customers...only because it is a port,I would suspect that a lot of merchandize gets here directly and brings with it a lot of distribution and thus closeouts..I don't think most of the bargains are result of corruption..
a couple of weeks ago I finally went to a little hole in the wall that sells the most beautiful cakes and cupcakes..(I was told their cake prices just went up five dollars..a lot of New Yorkers get cakes from them for birthdays etc..they are art pieces..the store looks so very run down..I laughed with my friend and said probably they were trying to fool the IRS..)
ps one of the reasons I think that NYC has a reputation for being unfriendly is because the average citizen is afraid to talk to strangers for fear they might get ripped off..I have been amazed how many friendly NYCers there are once I got my dogs..
Yes I am afraid of Guilani(sp) and afraid of Pataki..
ps because it is hard to live an isolated and provincial life in the city,I assume there is a lot less prejudice than in other parts of more isolated regions..although probably a lot more selfishness and jealousy
also it is a lot harder to close ones eyes to the homeless since you can't avoid them
also NYC probably attracts a lot more aggressive people who come here to make it "big"
