From a business standpoint, this high school training program is really brilliant. I am not in favor of kids skipping college if they have the opportunity, but, if a inner city kid doesn't go to college, he/she could do much worse than to go to work for $40k and learn computer networking skills in detail as a 18-20 year old. From the CSCO standpoint, this gives workers in an industry with a real shortage of workers. But at that age, kids LOVE computers. It is awesome. You have to see it to believe it. And they adapt to new information with zest and enthusiasm. Probably a real bargain from the standpoint of getting workers. And is it bad from the standpoint of kids? Well, it may take away the liberal arts education normally associated with college, but it also sets up the individual for a career paying an above average wage... and there is nothing to say that a kid could not go back to college after 4 years of working for CSCO. With all that cash (relatively speaking), they'd have to subscribe to SI and start trading options to pay for tuition!
