Donna
If you have some time, maybe you can
help us all out by giving us some kind
of form to follow so it will help us
at tax time...I know I have a ton of paper
work that every time I look at it, it gets
bigger. When I give it to my Tax man,
He growls.......I feel like a sheep, getting
ready for a hair cut....Wash rule, How important
is that...Like I said I just give him a box and
he says he will get even........
BTW computer cop was on American Most Wanted last
night. We should see a rise in CCEE on Mon, but
then, you never know with that one...
Thanks in advance
Banchee

Donna and Barbara,

Thanks for the bookkeeping tips. I think the Day planner is a great idea and I hope it will eliminate all the little pieces of paper now floating around on my desk.

Donna, I am very interested in the tax advice, as I think our accountant is going to have a bird when she sees what I've done! Could you offer more advice as to what we should have ready? I had thought the monthly statements would be all I needed. I have read elsewhere that it is a good idea to hire someone to keep up with your trading regularly, that way the IRS goes after them if a question and not you. Have no idea about a Schedule D. I think this is a great topic, especially for us newbies.

Thanks for any additional comments!--MMK

My accountant loves it ... I hand him 4 pages of stock transactions all tabulated on Excel and he just attaches it as a schedule taking the totals and putting them in the tax form. Saves me a lot of money as well and him a lot of time.

Donna,

Are you (or anybody) aware of any software out there that is deigned to help with Schedule D? I make about 1000 trades a year and I currently enter every trade into a Paradox/Delphi database.
This allows me to query the database to find out how many trades I have done in Intel (say) or how much commission i have paid.
Some people have mentioned quicken.

Thanks
