jg cordes, Lying, is lying is lying and a rose by any other name is a rose. With power comes responsibility. The more power, the more responsibility. When in the symbolic house of power such as the White House, or Capitol or etc., the Pres is perceived to be "on duty" and wearing the ultimate mantle of power bestowed by the American voter. American voters of whatever political persuasion could make a distinction if he were just lying to himself and to his family in an "off duty" mode.

Knowingly giving a false statement to a court or giving a false report to the police are crimes. Idiot did it within the context of the judicial system.

j g cordes, The U.S. Constitution made very clear that when one is under oath, they must tell the truth. The Constitution even makes clear that if you are accused of a crime, you do not have to testify. In most countries you can be forced to testify, or your non-state ments can be held as evidence of guilt. In this country, under our great Constitution, you are not only given the option of not testifying, but, you can even choose to not testify in an unrelated matter by taking the 5th Amendment option of avoiding self-incrim- ination. The problem here is Bill Clinton had 3 options when he was deposed by Paula Jones's lawyer: 1) Go under oath, tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. 2) Take the 5th amendment and avoid self- incrimination. 3) Lie like hell and hope ya don't get caught. Bill Clinton took option #3, got caught and now he is paying the price. Any questions? -John
