People often cheer when they hear Shakespeare's line from "King Henry VI, Part II": "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." They forget that this advice was given by Dick the Butcher in counseling the rebel Jack Cade how to set up a tyranny.

Funny how our view of lawyers often depends on whose ox is being gored - as a lawyer I have yet to hear of any client ever saying "Yes, I was drunk and I'll take my punishment." What we are more likely to hear is something like "Can't we claim the breathalizer was not properly calibrated or I just used Binaca mouthwash?"

Are there dishonest lawyers? Of course. Probably in the same proportion that there are dishonest car salesmen, doctors, mechanics, realtors, or (fill in the blank)...
