Defense # 3 put forth by the Clintonoid apologists is "What a horrible precedent will be made. Future Presidents will be 'looking over their shoulders' at everything they do." This does not even pass the laugh test. If impeaching Clinton means future Presidents will think twice before committing perjury, obstructing justice, or thumbing their nose at a Constitutional Congressional inquiry, that is fine with me. Defense #4 put forth by the Clintonoid apologists is "You cannot impeach this President because the majority of Americans do not want him impeached." There a numerous problems with this statement. First, the majority of Americans don't vote. But for argument's sake, we'll say even the voting majority doesn't want him impeached. So? This is a representative republic, not a Democracy. During the civil war period, the "majority" wanted to keep slavery too. Our representatives are sworn to uphold protect and defend the Constitution, regardless of public opinion. The only thing that ought to matter is the facts of the case, that is the evidence submitted and the validity of the charges.
